Administrative Services is under the command of Chief Deputy
John Eldridge. This is the Executive Branch of the Greenville County Sheriff's
Office. This division oversees the entire operation of the Sheriff's Office.
Below are some of the units that comprise and are directly assigned to
Administrative Services.
The Center for Advanced Training provided 5,530 students with
2,252 hours of classroom, firearms and driver training. The Center for
Advanced Training became the second law enforcement agency in the state chosen
as a distance learning lab for the Criminal Justice Academy. This allows
federal, state and local law enforcement to receive training without having to
travel. This allows more officers to receive training while reducing the costs
associated with training.
The deputies assigned to Grants and Accreditation worked
tirelessly to obtain over $1.5 million in grant monies. This allowed the
Sheriff’s Office to purchase a special response vehicle for the SWAT team, a meth lab response vehicle and needed equipment for training and response to
terrorist related incidents.
As law enforcement agencies struggle to locate and hire
nationwide, those assigned to Personnel and Recruiting continue to use
innovative methods to draw interested candidates. By the use of career fairs and
our website, this office received and processed over 1,000 applications for
Sheriff’s Office positions.
The internet has been an invaluable tool for law enforcement
giving us the ability to locate suspects, manage cases more efficiently and
provide information online. One problem being encountered by those working in
E911 is phone service over the internet, more commonly known as VOIP. This new
technology allows people to send and receive phone calls over the internet, but
some service providers do not register with the E911 office. This can cause
serious problems for dispatchers during an emergency by not being able to
receive the address or phone number of those making the call using VOIP.
The Office of E911 has been working to solve this problem and are educating the
public about this potential danger.
The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for
investigating employee related complaints. Last year this unit investigated 26
Internal Affairs complaints, 112 service related inquires and 5 shooting
incidents. This office also conducted 14 special projects, 4 staff inspections, 483 evidence procurement audits and
151 Polygraph exams.
