Interested persons enter a highly competitive selection process consisting of an oral interview board, rigorous background investigation, as well as physical, medical and psychological testing. Deputy I and Deputy II
DEPUTY II (CERTIFIED)
*Out of State Applicants must first complete a three-week legal's equivalency course for S.C. certification.
SALARY: $ 28,735 - 46,942.90 (Based upon 40 hour/week) SALARY: $ 30,890 - 49,290.04 (Based upon 42 hour/week: Uniform Patrol)

DEPUTY I (UNCERTIFIED: Less than 1 year of experience with or without certification)
SALARY: $ 27,630 (Based upon 42 hour/week: Uniform Patrol)

A 4% raise in salary is awarded to candidates after successful completion of their probationary period, which normally ends after the candidates first six months)

Pay Incentives: Additional pay incentives, up to 15%, awarded for education, experience and/or critical skills related to law enforcement. Baccalaureate 10% over starting pay. Associate 5% over starting pay. Bi-Lingual (Spanish) 5% over starting pay.
Overtime Pay: Any hours worked in excess of 80 hours (bi-weekly) is compensated at a rate of time and a half.
Holiday Pay: Any hours worked during one of ten paid county holidays is compensated at a rate of double time and a half.
Benefits: Free Medical Insurance, Free Dental Insurance, Life Insurance, State law enforcement retirement at 25 years service, Annual leave up to 240 hours accruement, Unlimited sick leave accruement, Workman's Compensation, Tuition Reimbursement Program
for continuing education.
Responsibilities: Under general supervision, exercises responsibilities for the enforcement of State and Local laws relating to public safety and welfare. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions. responsible for protection of life and property, apprehension of criminals, and the general enforcement of laws in a designated area on an assigned shift or on special assignments. A Certified law enforcement officer with at least 1 year experience in Uniform Patrol.
Applicants Must:

At least 21 years of age.

A SC resident when commissioned.

A US citizen.

Able to successfully complete a medical examination,
physical abilities test, psychological assessment, drug screening, and
background investigation.

Able to successfully complete the required 9 week training program
at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Have a H.S. diploma or GED certificate.

Have a valid SC driver's license.
-
Have a good driving record.

Have a clean criminal history.

Have a satisfactory credit history.

Have an honorable military discharge (if applicable).

Communications Specialist
COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
/ E911 Law Enforcement Dispatcher
(CERTIFIED)
SALARY: $29,534 - $ 46,942.90
(Based on 84 hours bi-weekly)
Responsibilities: Under general supervision, receives calls and
dispatches units as appropriate. Uses judgment in dispatching calls to units in
critical and routine situations and in providing back-up units in high risk or
extreme emergency situations. Works under stressful conditions.
COMMUNICATIONS E-911 CALL TAKER
/ Service Representative (UNCERTIFIED)
SALARY: $ 25,387 - $ 35,496 (Based on 84 hours bi-weekly)
Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, receives calls for critical and routine situations,
uses computer data entry and relays critical information to dispatch to provide
emergency services if warranted. Must be able to perform under high risk or
extreme emergency situations and work under stressful conditions.
Pay Incentives:
Additional pay incentives up to 15% for experience and/or critical skills
related to law enforcement.
Overtime Pay: Any
hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week is compensated at a rate of time and
a half.
Holiday Pay: Any
hours worked during one of
ten paid county holidays is compensated at a rate of double time and a
half.
