Nonferrous Metal Permits:

S. C. State Law (16-17-680)

(C)(1) A person or entity who wants to transport or sell nonferrous metals to a secondary metals recycler shall obtain a permit to transport and sell the nonferrous metals. An entity's employee is not required to obtain a separate permit to transport or sell nonferrous metals provided that the employee is acting within the scope and duties of their employment with the entity. An entity's employee who intends to transport and sell nonferrous metals on behalf of an entity shall have a copy of the entity's permit readily available for inspection.

To obtain a permit, free of charge, appear in person at the Sheriffs Office located at 4900 Old

Buncombe Rd, Greenville, SC 29617. Permits will be issued Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until

4:30 p.m. Office will be closed on county holidays. Permit will be valid for two years. The following must

be presented at time of application: Valid South Carolina Driver's License or South Carolina state-issued

ID or United States Military ID.

To replace a lost or destroyed permit ($10 fee), appear in person at the Sheriff's Office located at 4900

Old Buncombe Rd, Greenville. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The

individual must present their valid South Carolina Driver's License or South Carolina state-issued ID. A

$10.00 fee will be required - cash only.

Please note the following regarding Nonferrous Metal Permits:

- Permits are issued by the Sheriff's Office in the county in which the individual resides.

- Permits for Greenville County residents are issued only at the Sheriffs Office Northern Area

Command located at4900 Old Buncombe Road, Greenville, SC 29617

- Permits are non-transferrable - meaning it cannot be transferred between people.

- No permit is required to recycle aluminum cans.

In accordance with SC State Law. effective December 18. 2012. 48-hour permits

will no longer be issued.
