Back to School Safe and Sound

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone that Wednesday, August 19th marks the beginning of the school year for students living in Greenville County. This event means that there will be an increase in the traffic volume on our roadways. Residents operating motor vehicles in the county are asked to schedule extra time into their normal driving routines to accommodate for the increased traffic congestion that comes during the school year. The Sheriff's Office requests that individuals operating motor vehicles be especially observant when it comes to traveling in school zones and around areas where school buses are picking up and dropping off students. Deputies assigned to the Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit will be monitoring school zones and bus routes to ensure that our children are safely being transported to and from school, and that traffic laws are enforced. School zone speed limits and times vary from school to school and are clearly posted in the affected areas. Together, through the combined efforts of Law Enforcement and those individuals operating motor vehicles on our roadways, we will ensure that our children are provided with the best opportunity to arrive and depart from school in a safe and responsible manner.
